Trump’s Mouth Will Land Him in Jail
How dumb must you be to get jailed for actions during a civil case?
The man born with a silver foot in his mouth did it again. After Michael Cohen testified in the New York civil fraud trial, Trump promptly stood before the cameras outside the courtroom and violated his gag order — for the second time.
The first time Trump violated the order in this trial, he was fined $5,000. This time, when Trump tried to avoid punishment for his second violation of the gag order by lying about the subject of his comments, Judge Engoron said he did not find Trump “credible” and fined Trump $10,000.
“Next time,” Judge Engoron said, “It will be worse.”
Could Engoron be talking about jail time? I think so. While the January 6 case gag order issued by Judge Chutkin is still on hold pending appeal, Engoron has no such limitations on enforcing his gag order. He also appears to be losing patience with the former president — and that does not bode well for Trump.
There is something about a man who just can’t shut up
People have been pretty creative in their attempts to explain Trump’s failure to protect himself using the most basic means — that is, by simply shutting his mouth. Some elevate his behavior by insisting it’s part of some strategy, but I don’t buy it.
How is Trump’s behavior strategic when it invariably results in more damage to Trump? How is it strategic to bring about the possibility of incarceration — the one thing you are supposedly terrified of? And in what crazy mixed-up world does daring a judge to put you in jail by repeatedly violating a gag order in a civil case that doesn’t even have imprisonment as a recommended sentence make strategic sense?
When a person makes the same move in response to every perceived slight despite the consequences to himself, is that “strategic”?
Trump is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that only he is capable of — he is ensuring the thing he is said to be most afraid of will happen.
It’s all about the base
Others say it’s all about Trump playing to his base. He’s still trying to convince them that he’s innocent and is being persecuted by everybody. In this case, his target was a law clerk.
Does anybody believe attacking a law clerk will convince his supporters of his innocence and cause them to rally to his defense?
It’s a lack of impulse control
Nicole Wallace was correct when she pointed out on the 10.25.23 episode of Deadline White House that Trump has no impulse control. But it’s more than that. Trump is dying — not literally (as far as I know) but figuratively. His identity is slowly being chipped away at, and the longer this trial goes on, the more of it he’ll lose.
Before this trial is over — unless he can do something drastic and frankly miraculous — Trump will not only be a broken man, but he will also be broke.
Between fines, legal fees, loss of business, and, at some point, dwindling political donations, he will have nothing. And for Trump, having nothing means being nothing.
The real reason Trump can’t shut up
Trump is mentally ill. No one wants to say it, but it’s time for a wake-up call. Trump cannot control himself. He is a broken person. It happens. When people are subjected to years of abuse by sociopathic parents (his Dad, in this case), they need a lot of therapy.
Trump is what happens when you need a lot of therapy, and you don’t get any.
If you’ve read “Too Much and Never Enough” by Mary Trump, you already know Trump was raised in a severely dysfunctional family and was at the center of a severely dysfunctional business throughout his entire adult life. Consequently, Trump is disabled with severe emotional and psychological issues. His condition makes it impossible to tolerate the cognitive dissonance that ensues when his perceived success is threatened — and that is what is happening now. Trump has been forced to watch as the justice system shreds his identity in court.
It is finally beginning to sink in that he can no longer sustain his self-image. And that can’t happen to Trump because his image is all Trump has.
Listen to the experts
You may think Mary Trump, the niece who wrote about her uncle’s multiple personality disorders, is too biased to paint an objective picture of her uncle. You may think their legal battles and financial squabbles have colored her perception of him so much that she is not a credible witness to his nature — though she has a degree in clinical psychology.
But what about the 27 mental health professionals who were compelled to publish a book after watching in amazement as Trump’s public behavior dropped one clue after another about the quality of his psychoses?
You don’t need to put the man on a couch to know who Trump is. He advertises it whenever he opens his mouth to utter remarks most seven-year-olds are too sophisticated to make.
Here is a quote from the back cover of the book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.”
There are those who still hold out hope that this president can be prevailed upon to listen to reason and curb his erratic behavior. Our professional experience would suggest otherwise. We collectively warn that anyone as mentally unstable as this man simply should not be entrusted with the life-and-death powers of the presidency.
I urge everyone to read this book. But even if you don’t, know this: Trump is not fit to be president. He’s nothing more than a rabid dog trying to stay alive by biting everyone around him. It’s not about impulse control — it’s about survival.
I believe Trump will end up in jail because he cannot accept reality. And when it comes crashing down on him, which is inevitable, Trump’s only response will be to lash out further to avoid completely disintegrating. Fines don’t matter. Even the threat of jail time won’t stop him.
Trump is cornered. And when rabid dogs are cornered, they don’t strategize — they attack.
Yea, but it’s deeply disturbing that he is like the nations id, and that so many people think he’s tough just because he’s mean.
